Bear Proof Your Home and Property

The following informatuion was gathered from the Bear Education Meeting
STEPS TO BEAR PROOF YOUR HOME
- Never feed a Bear. It's against the law and you could face a penalty of up to $1,000 for each offense.
- Invest in heavy-duty bear-resistant garbage containers and may be ordered through the POA Office 973-627-5300.
- Wash garbage containers with bleach
- Garbage cans should be out on collection day and tightly sealed.
- Bird feeders should not put out between April and November.
- Grills should be thoroughly cleaned after each use. Food residue attracts Bears.
- Pet food, scraps, and bowls should not be left outside. Remove immediately after feeding.
- Close off decks with fencing to prevent Bears from hibernating under decks.
