WML Pre-School
Policy

(Stated for the express purpose of the health and safety of all our children)

  1. School doors open at 9:00 A.M. and 12:15 P.M. The school is not responsible for supervising children before or after class hours.

If you find that you will be late in picking up your child, you must contact the school at 973-627-1367 and inform us as to how late you will be. This is to be done only on an emergency basis.

Habitual lateness will result in a charge of $25.00 per day.

  2. There is no parking or dropping off on the street in front of the school. Please park in the lot across the street and walk the children to school.
  3. Please submit a written list of drivers and children in your car pool to the teacher. If there are any changes in the approved drivers or the children's schedule, a written notice or phone call from the parent of the child involved would be appreciated. When possible, please tell your child about any change in schedule as well.
  4. The White Meadow Lake Pre-School does have an open door policy concerning observation. Please feel free to drop in any time to observe our classroom.
  5. Please be aware that children will be exercising, playing outside, climbing, painting, pasting, etc. They might get dirty. Choose clothing and shoes with this and safety in mind. We recommend no jelly or patent leather dress shoes on normal school days.
  6. Please do not allow siblings to use the playground equipment while class is in session.
  7. In case of inclement weather, notification will be made by the head room mothers. Whenever possible, we will follow the Rockaway Township's Board of Education decision on school closings concerning snow days. If the Township has a delayed opening, WML Pre-School will have NO A.M. session. If the Township has an early dismissal, we will have NO P.M. session.
  8. If you are concerned about any difficulty with children in school, the first person to speak with is the teacher. She will be happy to discuss any concerns during an arranged appointment.
  9. Children's birthdays are celebrated in the following manner. During snack period, the child is given a crown with his age on it. The class sings happy birthday and the teacher gives a birthday card. Parents may provide a special snack if they choose. We prefer that you send cookies or miniature cupcakes as we have students who only eat the cupcake top, students who eat only the bottoms, and students who eat everyone else's crumbs. Cookies or miniature cupcakes are easier to handle and are greeted by the children as a special treat.
  10. No birthday invitations will be distributed in school or on school grounds unless everyone in the class is invited.
  11. Please do not allow your child to bring toys or other personal items to school. The School shall not be responsible for lost or broken items.
  12. In the event that your child contracts a contagious disease such as strep, chicken pox, pink eye, head lice, etc., please notify the school. It may be necessary to obtain a doctor's note prior to returning to class.

Please keep your child home if he or she:

    • Has a fever or has been ill during the previous 24-hour period
    • Is taking an antibiotic. May come back after 48 hours
    • Has a heavy nasal discharge.
    • Is fussy, cranky, and generally out of sorts.
    • Has symptoms of a sore throat, reddened eyes, headache, abdominal pain.

Your child's health is a matter of major importance to all of us.

  13. Should your family or child be experiencing any present or potential trauma, the teacher should be made aware.
  14. During the winter months, we will be going outdoors to play unless the weather is inclement. Please make sure that your child dresses accordingly. Girls in dresses should bring warm pants. Each child is required to leave an extra change of clothing at school (shirt, pants, underpants) in a shoe box with his/her name clearly printed on the box.
  15. Pets are not allowed on school property.
  16. If your child has a summer birthday and would like to celebrate it early (June), please let Mrs. Patterson know. A date will then be mutually arranged.
