April is here, the sun is warm and soon we will
witness the miracle of spring. We will spend part
of the month discovering the changes in nature as
we explore bird nests, plants, butterflies, and
insects. As the children come to appreciate the
wonders of nature, they will also develop a sense
of responsibility to our planet as we begin our
unit on Ecology. We will learn about the importance
of keeping our land, air, and water clean and specific
ways the children can help save the Earth. We will
celebrate Easter this month in school with fuzzy
bunnies and baskets and we will learn about the
customs and traditions of Passover as well. The
children will learn about the foods served at a
traditional Sedar dinner and have a chance to sample
Matzoh for snack.

Preschoolers write Letters to Iraq
Dear students and staff,
My soldiers and I am honored to respond to your
thoughtful cards and letter. My name is Sergeant
First Class Joseph Grimsy, and I am currently serving
in Baghdad, Iraq. I am a member of the “Mighty”
118th Military Police Company (Airborne). We have
been here for six months now and for some of us
this is our second and third time here. I am a Platoon
Sergeant responsible for forty two paratroopers.
Our duty station is Fort Bragg, North Carolina,
the home of the Airborne. We are soldiers who jump
from airplanes, which most people think is a crazy
thing to do. Baghdad is a very dangerous and unstable
part of the world. The fighting man and woman of
the United States will continue to serve in dangerous
parts of the world to ensure the safety of great
Americans such as you. My niece Gabriella Velardi
attends White Meadow Lake Preschool, and I miss
her and her brothers tremendously. I am a father
with two girls of my own ages 4 and 1. My wife and
I are expecting our third child and I am trying
to get home for the birth of Gabby’s new cousin.
I hope your holiday season is a safe, healthy and
happy one. Our holiday season will be a little more
joyous due to your patriotism. Thank you.
Joseph W. Grimsey, SFC/USA, Platoon Sergeant
